Franz Beckenbauer is the greatest defender in the history of football. A World Cup winner with Germany in 1974 and the fulcrum of the Bayern Munich side that beat all-comers in the same era.

He is the founder or be called the inventor of the “modern Day sweeper position” in Football. Due to his playstyle, he was labeled as the ‘Der Kaiser’ because of his elegant style, dominance, and leadership on the field.

Beckenbauer carried himself on and off the pitch with all the class of a captain and was one of the most versatile defenders in the history of the game.

He is the only defender to date to win the Ballon d’Or award twice. Moreover, He is one of three men, along with Brazil’s Mário Zagallo and France’s Didier Deschamps, to have won the World Cup as a player and as a manager.
