Anthony Joshua is finally set to make his much awaited return to the ring when he takes on Oleksandr Usyk in what should be a massive fight in Joshua’s career. The fight has been confirmed and it will take place Saturday, 25th September 2021. Joshua put his IBF, WBO, and IBO belts on the line against WBC mandatory challenger Oleksandr Usyk. The fight will be the usual PPV event in the UK and will take place at the Tottenham Stadium in London. Anthony Joshua is set earn over £15 million from this fight. We take a look at some of the financial numbers behind this fight.
Anthony Joshua vs Oleksandr Usyk Purse Payouts (Confirmed)
Since Joshua won his last fight against Pulev back in December 2020, UK boxing fans were hoping that a deal with Tyson Fury camp will be sorted and both will fight in the summer of 2021. However Tyson Fury ended up agreeing for second rematch against Deontay Wilder leaving Joshua camp to look for a replacement. In comes Ukrainian Oleksandre Usyk who defeated Chisora in October 2020.
Now this might not be the fight people wanted for Joshua, however this is not easy fight by any means. Usyk looked really impressive against Chisora where he announced himself to heavyweight scene. That was a PPV event and Usyk earned his career best Oleksandr Usyk £1.5 million.
FIGHTER | PURSE |
---|---|
ANTHONY JOSHUA | £10 million guaranteed plus share of PPV sales. Potential earnings £15 million |
OLEKSANDRE UYSK | £3 million guaranteed. His career best purse to date |
Since Usyk is fighting Anthony Joshua next, it was revealed in British media that Usyk is set to pocket £5 million for Joshua fight. £3 million is guaranteed payment and he might clear another £1-£2 million if PPV target is meet. Anthony Joshua on the other hand cleared £10 million from his last fight against Pulev back in December 2020 largely down to the fact of Pandemic issues. However, 25th September fight will be in the full capacity stadium of Tottenham Hotspurs and Sky Sports also expect much bigger PPV numbers. If Joshua-Usyk sell around 450,000 PPV in the UK, Anthony Joshua is guaranteed a £15 million payout from this fight.
