West Indies, cricket board announced the new contracts for the players according to news sources, the contracts ratio decreased from 23 to 18 players in 2021-22 season. The contract of players in term from June 2021 and will renew after 2022 June or July no official date confirmed for that. For the very first time players like (Nkrumah Bonner, Joshua Da Silva, Akeal Hosein and Kyle Mayers) awarded international retainers contracts. Jason Holder, only player in the current West Indies squad of 18 players who hold all three format cricket contracts. The three format contract offered to Holder, on basis of his performance in T20, ODI’s and Test matches. Lead selector of West Indies team quoted ” that there are large number of players who earned red ball contract by their strong performances during the last period, there players who did not get central contract with the team after not meeting the minimum requirements”.
Players who were out of their international retainer contracts are Roston Chase, Shamarh Brooks, Shane Dowrich Sunil Ambris, Sheldon Cottrell, Shimron Hetmyer, Brandon King, Keemo Paul, Rovman Powell, Romario Shepherd and Oshane Thomas. Chase is the only player who hold three format cricket contract for the year 2019-20. While Shamarh Brooks and Shane Dowrich both lost their red ball contracts and the other players mention above lost white ball contracts for term 2021-22.
Kraigg Brathwaite and Kieron Pollard two of the players earn more compare to the other squad members, these two receive 100% captains bonus and also earn money for winning series or match.
