Liverpool has the third highest wage bill in Premier League as we head into the 2020/21 season. Club under the ownership of FSG (Fenway Sports Group) have been been very shrewd in transfer market over the years. However the recent success in premier league and champions league has activated bonus clauses on player contracts which spiked Liverpool’s wage bill going into 2020/21 season.
We will be taking a look at Liverpool’s entire squad contracts and how much they are being paid under their current contracts
Liverpool’s Wage Structure:
FSG has installed a wage structure at the club where they do not pay over the top wages and still manage to close the gap at the top while competing for big trophies. Going into the 2020/21 season Liverpool’s wage bill stands at £190 million where Mohmmad Salah is the highest paid player with his £250,000 a week contract extension he signed recently. However just like Salah other top players at the club have either signed contracts with improved financial details or demanding for pay rise.
That has caused Liverpool’s wage bill to dramatically increase over the last three years where now it stands at £190 million just behind Manchester City and Manchester United.
Liverpool Player Salaries In 2021: Mo Salah being highest paid player in Liverpool ranks come as not a surprise. But now Liverpool are more than willing to hand out big contracts in a bid to attract top talent. However they only go for players who are willing to install performance related bonus clauses on top of base salary.
Thiago was signed on a free transfer in the summer of 2020 and his £180,000 a week salary basically include £120,000 a week as guaranteed pay but there will be 50% increase if Liverpool were to win the league or reach Champions League final. Similar contract was offered to Gini Wijnaldum who is reluctant to sign such deal.
